Solo Contest Registration

IMPORTANT: Please fill out the Google doc Registration Form after reading information below:

DATE:  Saturday, February 6, 2021, Times TBA.  Please do not enter this contest if you cannot commit to performing on this day. If you register for this event, it is your responsibility to reserve the entire day for this contest.  Sinfonia Orchestra musicians (both KVA and in-person) are expected to participate in this event.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?: In-person and KVA students who are studying privately should take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to perform and participate in the UIL Solo Contest.  Jordan Orchestra students are encouraged to participate in a solo event only if they are studying privately.

**In-person Jordan Orchestra students WILL participate in some sort of small ensemble for this contest.  We will work on ensembles starting in January.**

KVA STUDENTS:  Unfortunately, participation in ensembles is not possible this year for our KVA students. However, KVA students may perform a solo as long as they are studying with a private lesson teacher.

LOCATION: Jordan High School music department.  Because of COVID-19, Solo Contest is site-specific this year meaning that only Jordan Orchestra students will participate at the Jordan campus.  Only the judge, accompanist, and performer will be allowed in the contest room.

COST: $10/student per each event (Check payable to ‘Jordan Orchestra’)

ENTRY DEADLINE: January 6, 2021 (Immediately after Winter Break)

UIL ID:  You will need to find the UIL ID number for your solo event by visiting the following website: https://www.uiltexas.org/pml/   You will copy and paste this code into the Google doc form for your registration.

MUSIC SCORES: You must provide original music with all measures numbered for the judge.  Jordan will not provide original scores for students. Plan ahead and order from music companies such as Shar.com or JW Pepper.

PIANO ACCOMPANIST: It is your responsibility to schedule multiple rehearsal times with the piano accompanists.  Accompanist names will be provided to you by Mr. Butz starting in January.  You must directly call and schedule times to rehearse outside of school with the accompanists.  UIL rules state that you must perform your solo with piano accompanist if the piece is not categorized as ‘unaccompanied’.  Please know that accompanists will charge a fee for rehearsals and performance.

TRANSPORTATION: Parents are responsible for transportation to and from Jordan.

REGISTRATION: Please click HERE to fill out Google doc online registration form.

QUESTIONS?: Mr. Butz will return to campus on Monday, January 4th to answer any questions you have.  Meanwhile, think about what solo you want to perform and register now for the event.
